Supporting students with M.E.

Around 250,000 people in the UK have myalgic encephalomyelitis (M.E.).

This complex neurological condition is the most common cause of health-related long-term school absence and as many as three per cent of children are thought to have the condition.

Resources have been published by UK charity Action for M.E. to mark M.E. Awareness Month in May.

They offer information for teachers working with families affected by M.E. and are free to download.

They cover topics including: what to expect when supporting a student, practical ways to help in lessons, Individual healthcare plans and Education Health and Care Plans, and attendance and exam accessibility, including SATs and GCSEs/A levels.
