Ms Sissy Jupe, English teacher of the parish and NQT, is coming to the end of her first year in an inner city school. There have been times when she thought she wouldn’t.

She is doing brilliantly – against the odds. Rather steep odds. Her rented shoebox is still extortionate, the work rate Sisyphean, management calamitous and the moronic inferno outside her classroom, raging Incandescent.

Nigel “Bloke” Farago and his poisonous posters have done nothing for playground harmony. Brexit will make it worse. Bad Things will be permitted. Barbarism preys on decency. Sissy is on the frontline, a shock absorber for all this malign nonsense.
