They may be childcare and education professionals, working parents who feel they can do a better job than what's on offer, or those with business experience in other fields.
Generally, there is optimism about business conditions in the childcare sector. Although there has been a slight fall in the number of day nurseries, reports on occupancy figures suggest that market conditions are healthy. On average there was a vacancy rate of 18.25 per cent in March 2011, compared with a 17.5 per cent in March 2010, and 20.5 per cent at the start of 2009 (Laing and Buisson, 2011). Nurseries as a whole have strengthened occupancy by keeping fee increases as low as possible.
