All about the role of ... Regional manager

Both small and large nursery groups employ regional managers as part of their operational teams to oversee quality across all of their sites and ensure that the company's strategic vision is achieved.

This is a challenging role - particularly at a time when trading conditions are tough and the sector is undergoing change. Regional managers will currently be involved in ensuring that the revised EYFS and its implications for practice are fully understood by all teams across the group, and will be looking at how new training and CPD needs can be met in a cost-effective way. There will be pressure to look at economies of scale in order to ensure sustainability of the group. There are also a lot of policies to keep up to date with - including changes to the inspection framework, employment law and changes to the way in which local authorities are allocating funding under the free entitlement. Very often the role is fulfilled by staff members who have worked their way up through the ranks. This experience equips them to relate effectively with staff at all levels and have an all-round understanding of the business and its day-to-day routines.
