Q The nursery employs a number of EEA citizens. What immigration restrictions will be imposed after Brexit? Can we continue to employ them?
A Yes, they can continue to be employed after Brexit. Nothing changes as EU rules about free movement are still in place and a form of free movement will be retained until the end of 2020. The position with EEA citizens who arrive in the UK before, during and after any Brexit transition period needs to be assessed, as does the potential impact of no deal.
Almost all EEA citizens will need to apply for ‘settled status’ between 2019 and 2020 (2021 if a Brexit deal is reached) to ensure the right to live and work in the UK from 2021 onwards. The settled status application process will open fully by 30 March 2019.
