As nursery managers start planning for 2012, it is clear that the early years sector is not immune from increasing fuel and food costs, rising unemployment and the European economic crisis.
While the debt problems of Eurozone countries might seem worlds away from the realms of UK childcare settings, the chill winds of economic uncertainty are causing shivers.
Ian Murchie, relationship director in the Healthcare Team at Barclays Corporate, says, 'The general economic climate still looks quite challenging. There is a concern that parents feel less confident about economic conditions and in turn might be looking to minimise their outgoings, which could translate into reduced sessions at nurseries.
