Encourage children to collect a rich variety of fallen leaves to explore creatively.
Note that flat leaves are easier to work with, so press them before use by putting them between layers of newspaper weighted down with books. As far as possible, leave the children to use the resources freely, demonstrating techniques initially but not directing activities.
INVESTIGATIONS
- Investigate how leaves change colour in autumn. Arrange different coloured leaves from the same tree in a line along a strip of card to depict colour changes from green, through yellow, orange and red to brown.
- Paint watery stripes of these colours in the same order and observe how they blend to create different shades.
