Nurseries are currently faced with many uncertainties when it comes to developing their staff. Most pressing is the lack of funding to support CPD and essential courses such as first aid, but there is also a question mark over the whole direction of training, and how providers will cope when the revised EYFS is introduced.
The Graduate Leader Fund, which supported degree-level training and Early Years Professional pathways, was wound up in March. While some of the Early Intervention Grant can be used to replace it, many providers are finding that funding has been drastically reduced as local authorities react to more urgent claims on their budgets.
