Opinion: Letters

Letter of the week

LAW CAN BE AN ASS

I totally agree with the comments made by Mark Cawley about the Equalities Act (Letters, 21 April). There are aspects of several laws and acts that do not lend themselves to childcare and protecting the vulnerable group we care for.

It is terrible that as employers we are left vulnerable and the tools we need to carry out our role effectively are taken away. I have had a similar issue with safeguarding involving a Modern Apprentice who was witnessed hurting a child by a senior member of staff.

I am having to fight to keep this person out of my setting. Why? Because she has extra rights. What about the rights of the child she hurt? What about the rights of the parents to be able to trust I will do the right thing? What about my rights to run an organisation that is safe for all users?
