Action advised on promoting children's play provision

A new guide aims to help organisations implement the Charter for Children's Play.

The practical resource from Play England shows how families, community groups and play associations can use the charter to support the creation of better play opportunities in their area.

The charter was first published by the former Children's Play Council, now Play England, in 1992 as a guiding document for all those involved in providing play opportunities for children and young people. It sets out eight statements to help individuals and organisations to review and improve play provision for children and young people.

The new guide includes a chapter and action points for each statement.

Adrian Voce, director of Play England, said, 'The Charter for Children's Play illustrates what all children should be entitled to, in order to enjoy their right to play under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. This guide shows how everyone involved in children's lives can ensure that excellent and inclusive play opportunities are available to all children, regardless of circumstances or background.'
