Help is at hand. Using a few basic time management techniques, it is possible to render order out of chaos, get on top of your workload and maintain a good work/life balance.

'Managers generally are under pressure, but for a manager in the childcare sector there are so many different demands on your time,' says Ann Hanks, childcare director of Acorn Childcare Training, which runs a one-day time management course. 'There's the pressures of maintaining staffing ratios, supporting the staff, spending time with the children, dealing with the parents, and Ofsted pushing you for paperwork, as well your own work.
