Nursery World reported two weeks ago that one woman, Kate Roughly, age 36, had been charged with ‘unlawful act manslaughter’ following the death of Genevieve Zophia Meehan in May 2022 who suffered a ‘medical episode’ at Tiny Toes Nursery in Cheadle.
It has been reported that Roughly was Genevieve’s ‘carer’.
On Friday (25 August), an inquest into the child’s death was opened by senior coroner Alison Mutch in Stockport.
According to local reports, during the ‘short hearing, a police coroner’s officer confirmed the cause of Genevieve’s death, which was also confirmed by a pathologist.
The article in the Manchester Evening News states that the court were told by the pathologist that the cause of death was a ‘combination of asphyxia and patho-physological stress, imparted by an unsafe sleep environment.’
