The finding comes from an on-going survey into teachers’ pay and conditions by the NASUWT, to which 8,500 teachers have responded so far.
The Department for Education accepted recommendations from the School Teachers’ Review Body for a cost of living rise to be implemented in September this year. The NASUWT has now threatened “escalated industrial action” in schools that are refusing to implement the rise.
General secretary Chris Keates said refusing the rise would be “unacceptable”. She added: “Teachers have suffered deep cuts to their pay over the last four and a half years as a result of pay freezes and pay caps. Pay has been further eroded by significant increases in pension contributions.
