Exams watchdog Ofqual has confirmed that this summer’s examinations have not been moved to accommodate Ramadan – and nor will they be.
A statement was issued by chief regulator Dame Glenys Stacey in reaction to comments made by Ofsted chief inspector Sir Michael Wilshaw during a LBC radio phone-in show.
Dame Glenys said: “Ofqual and the Joint Council of Qualifications (JCQ) liaise with a broad range of groups regarding exam timetables far in advance of exams being sat. Schedules are set to ensure that, as far as possible, no child is disadvantaged due to the timing of exams. This includes consideration of those who follow Islam.”
