The award celebrates the achievements of students who have shownexcellence in the care and education of young children. Judges will belooking for students who show the potential to be great childcareprofessionals and demonstrate outstanding performance on theircourses.
This year's winner will be announced at a judging ceremony in Oxford inJuly and presented with a certificate, a year's subscription to NurseryWorld and a cheque from Heinemann for 300. The student's collegewill also receive a 300 Heinemann voucher. Runners- up willreceive a cheque for 100 along with 75 Heinemann vouchersfor their school or college.
Last year the award went to Happiness Brown (News, 28 June 2007), whocompleted her CACHE Diploma in Childcare and Education at Kensington andChelsea College. She now works full time at Nottingdale nursery in northKensington, London, and teaches local students GCSE childcare one dayper week.
