Handouts full of well-meaning advice too often act as instant turn-offs to the very people they're meant to help. But an innovative information pack designed by Newcastle speech and language therapists proved such a hit that mothers literally picked it up and hugged it.
On the back of that success, therapists Gretel McEwan and Lynn Jones have now designed a further pack to cover two more major milestones in children's language development. They were spurred into action two years ago when a group of health visitors asked for a leaflet on babies'
listening skills, suitable for handing out at nine-month checks.
