Bertram buys Dundee nursery chain

Nursery group Bertram has acquired Oranges and Lemons Nurseries, a chain of four settings.

The acquisition of the Dundee-based chain brings the total of number of nurseries owned by Bertram to 36, offering around 2,974  places.

Bertram currently owns nurseries across Scotland, but the Oranges and Lemons Nurseries will be the group’s first settings in Dundee.

The nursery group also has nurseries in Liverpool, Manchester and Shropshire.

Bertram’s chief executive and owner Graeme Scott told Nursery World that Bertram had no plans to re-brand the Orange and Lemons Nurseries. However, the settings will undergo refurbishment and improvement.

oranges-and-lemonsOranges and Lemons Nurseries was established in 1998 by Peter Marr and his wife. They opened their first setting at Clement Park in Dundee.

One of the Oranges and Lemons settings in Technology Park in Dundee has places for 100 children, a large outdoor area and access to a forest, which Bertram plans to use for forest school sessions.

Mr Scott said, ‘We bought a nursery from Oranges and Lemons in the past and we know their practice is very good.

‘The sale presented a good opportunity to get a foothold in Dundee what with the new Victoria and Albert (V & A) Museum opening next year, which will bring a lot of tourists to the area and undoubtedly have a knock-on-effect on employment.’
