Cameron hosts first Cabinet meeting of the new Government

The Prime Minister is putting the finishing touches to his ministerial team today.

A number of appointments at the Department for Education are yet to be filled, including the early years brief.

David Cameron also hosted the first Cabinet meeting of the new all-Conservative Government.

During the Cabinet meeting, the first part of which was filmed by a BBC television crew, the Prime Minister waved a copy of the manifesto and said that the Conservatives would deliver all their manifesto pledges.

This would include the manifesto pledge to an early years funding review and a doubling of the amount of funded places for three-and four-year-olds to 30 hours a week for working parents.

At the Cabinet meeting the Prime Minister said, ‘In here is the programme we have the mandate to deliver.’
