Cartoons enter into a food fight

The Goodies Gang of cartoon characters is being introduced by organic food company Organix to promote healthy food to children.

Organix has joined forces with illustrator Caroline Jayne Church tocreate the characters, who will appear in marketing campaigns and on thepackaging of the Organix Goodies range for children aged one to five. The Gang will also appear on a specially designed interactive website atwww.organixfoodclub.com, where children can sign up to the Children'sFood Club and play educational games.

Lizzie Vann, founder of Organix, said, 'We want the characters to makechildren think about where good food comes from, and inspire them to dofun, healthy things.'

The six characters have individual personalities and interests such ascycling, swimming and cooking. Hattie (below) loves animals and herfavourite food is apples, while Alfie (above) is a music lover who playsthe drums in his bedroom and loves to eat strawberries.

Caroline Jayne Church said, 'They are a group of lively children who tryto make the most of life. They have been taught how important it is tolook after yourself and also to make sure that you eat the right kind offood because that's what makes you feel good.'

The launch of the characters follows concerns raised by pressure groupssuch as Which? that food manufacturers are routinely using favouritechildren's characters to promote junk food (News, 30 August).
