The Supporting Children and Families Project, run by 4Children and the National Children's Bureau, will focus on PVI providers in an effort to offer them the same opportunities as those in children's centres.
The training will be piloted in 2007 and rolled out the following year.
The project's steering group includes the Children's Workforce Development Council, National Day Nurseries Association, National Childminding Association, SkillsActive, the DfES, Pre-School Learning Alliance and Essex County Council.
Charlotte Pace, a children's workforce consultant at 4Children, said, 'One of the results of the NCB's research in 2004/05 is that training and certification should be modular and build towards recognised national qualifications which meet the needs of a national integrated workforce.'
