Called AllergyWise, the three-year, UK-wide programme will equip schoolnurses with the skills and resources to manage severe allergy andanaphylaxis. It will train 2,160 school nurses and reach 43,200schools.
Sue Clarke, the programme's senior trainer, said, 'We expect thisproject to result in a reduction in risk of fatal allergic reactions andfewer overall allergic reactions occurring in the schoolenvironment.'
School nurse Adeola Kukuspecial said, 'This course is exactly what weneeded. Having well-trained and confident staff will result in a reducedneed for measures that over-restrict non-allergic pupils, so my trainingwill benefit the school as a whole.'
