Childminders inspected at no notice

Inspections of childminders in Wales will now include unannounced visits, under changes introduced by the Care Standards Inspectorate for Wales (CSIW) last week. The new inspection process aims to focus more on the day-to- day experiences of those who use and provide the services. Before a prospective visit childminders will be sent a self-assessment form to complete and the visit will take place some time in the following three months.

CSIWchief executive Rob Pickford said, 'The reform is based on ensuring that the experiences of service users are at the core of CSIW's work.
