However, she said that she would remain in the job until a successor is found.
Ms Haynes said she had 'thoroughly enjoyed working with NCMA staff, volunteers and colleagues' and thanked them for their commitment and support.
She said, 'Recent NCMA successes - such as ensuring registered childminding and childminding networks are at the heart of the Government's ten-year childcare strategy and launching our successful nanny membership scheme - mean that NCMA is poised for a new phase of its development under a new chief executive.'
Prior to joining the NCMA in 1993, Ms Haynes worked in local government, specialising in recruitment, training, equal opportunities and public relations. She was a district councillor for eight years and deputy leader of Brighton Council.
