Children love monkeying around away from nursery

It wasn't just the children from Little Monkeys day nursery in Horsham, West Sussex, who enjoyed their summer holidays - 'Activity Monkey', the nursery's cuddly mascot, also got the chance to enjoy a summer full of activities.

In order to reinforce links between home and nursery, children can askto take Activity Monkey home for a period of one to two weeks to join inwith activities at home or on holiday.

Nursery owner Lyn Povey said, 'It is a really good way to build stronglinks between home and nursery. The children absolutely love takingActivity Monkey home, but also know he has to return to nursery at theend of the week, so that another child can have a go.'

With help from enthusiastic parents, children also make a scrapbookdepicting their adventures with their cuddly friend, using photographsand souvenirs.

Luca Collins was one of the children who had a good time spending twoweeks of his summer holiday with Activity Monkey in July.

Both Luca and monkey spent one week at home doing Luca's usualactivities, which include trampolining, swimming and cooking, and theother week at his grandpa's, taking in the sights of Blackpool.

Luca's mother Claire said, 'Luca enjoyed taking out Activity Monkey andcompleting the scrapbook.'

She added, ' The scheme is really good as it helps children talk abouthome life and gives them all a shared interest.'
