Music education charity the Chineke! Foundation is inviting young musicians to register their interest in participating in the 2023 Chineke! Junior Summer Residential course, running between 20 and 26 August.

There is an open call for young musicians to take part in the course, where they will have the opportunity to rehearse and perform in a full-scale symphony orchestra at a prestigious professional venue, will gain instrument-specific tuition, take part in workshops and have the opportunity to meet young musicians forma cross the country.

The opportunity is free, and covers the fees of catering and accommodation at Benenden School. There is a bursary available to assist with travel expenses if needed.

Chineke! is looking for junior string and percussion players at ABRSM Grade 6 or above (or equivalent) and wind, brass and senior string players at ABRSM Grade 8 or above (or equivalent) to take part.

Driven by the motto ‘championing change and celebrating diversity in classical music’, The Chineke! Foundation is committed to provisioning exceptional career opportunities for Black and ethnically diverse musicians.

On Twitter, Chineke! States that it extends a ‘special invitation to young musicians aged 12–22, in particular from black and/or global majority backgrounds’ to take part in this ‘transformative course’.
