Comedy explores the pre-school world

A playwright who owned her own nursery for 13 years has turned the stresses and strains of an Ofsted inspection into a comedy, where yoghurt is banned because of health and safety fears.

The play, 'An Inspector Calls Back', which is about to make its debut on the London stage, features actress Norma Atallah, best known for her role in the film 'Mamma Mia'.

Miranda Walker, who used to own ABC Nursery in Devon, has set her play in a pre-school fraught with politics and political correctness, where the play leader is a control freak and the deputy refuses to toe the line.

Ms Walker said, 'I've been the nursery worker whose face drops when they realise it's Ofsted at the door. The stress is undeniable, and wherever there's tension, there's a comedy begging to be written. I've always wanted to take a sideways look at the situation, and couldn't resist it any longer.'
