Under plans to review pay and conditions for Reading Borough Council employees from April 2010, more than 100 staff may have to move from nursery nurse conditions to local government staff conditions. The nursery nurse contract is for term-time only, so for them the move will lead to a pro-rata salary and a loss in real wages.
Newer nursery staff are signed up to the local government contract at 37 hours per week, while the nursery nurse contracts are set at 32.5 hours per week.
The council said the changes were also being made in response to the extension of the free entitlement in September 2010.
