An overview and scrutiny panel, made up of a group of councillors, willhear evidence from Kirklees Metropolitan Council on the process taken inreaching the decision to close Tiddlywinks, Sankofa and Cambridge Roadnurseries in Huddersfield. The panel, which first met last Friday, willlook at how the closures were discussed with affected parties, and howthe council considered their views.
A review of the decision to close the nurseries was carried out in Aprilafter campaigners presented the council with a 5,000-name petition andstaged a protest march through Huddersfield town centre. (News, 3 May, 8March). The scrutiny panel was set up after a parent complained that thereview, led by cabinet member for children's services Councillor JimDodds, had been carried out incorrectly and that parents had not beenconsulted.
