Last week, children's minister Ed Balls pledged 21m in fundingfor the School Food Trust over the next three years, to help increasethe take-up of school meals.
The Government has also given 2m to set up a network of 16 SchoolFEAST training centres across the country.
Neil Leitch, director of the PLA's Feeding Young Imaginations campaign,said, 'This investment is commendable. However, the continued focus onschool-aged children rather than starting where it will really count isa fundamental flaw in their strategy. Neglecting the diets of pre-schoolchildren will undermine the effectiveness of later intervention.'
