Resources
spoons, jugs, empty dishes, ice cubes, salt, rice, coffee granules, tea leaves, grated cheese, tomato puree
Step by step
* Prepare a table for four children to sit at, providing spoons, jugs and empty dishes for each child.
* Lay the table with small dishes, each containing a different substance. Remind the children that some of the substances are inedible, and therefore should not be tasted.
* Encourage the children to identify all the substances and their uses.
* Suggest that they predict what may happen when each of the items is added to water. Record their ideas.
