It is important that practitioners and parents agree on what is appropriate clothing for children to wear when attending a setting. Children are active learners, so they need to wear clothes that:
* allow them to move, run and climb freely and safely
* can be layered, so they can respond to changes in temperature
* promote self-help skills (and don't require inordinate amounts of adult help)
* allow them to engage in messy activities without anxiety.
Suitable clothes
Uniforms may be popular in some settings, but they can run counter to children's learning needs. Ask yourself:
* Do you worry about encouraging the children to explore equipment and materials, indoors and out, due to parents' likely reaction to dirty or damaged clothes?
