The Daycare Trust is taking men and childcare as the theme for National Childcare Week from June 9 to 15, while the annual children's art competition run by the Daycare Trust and Nursery World is asking children to draw their male hero. The closing date for this competition is 30 April, so make sure you send your setting's entries in on time.
And this year's student essay competition (see pages 14-15) is also focusing on men in the early years sector, asking students to write an essay giving their ideas of how more men could be persuaded that such jobs are for them. The first prize is 1,000 - which will be well worth it for some fresh thinking on this important subject. So, if you are a childcare or early years education student - male or female - let us know how you think progress could be made to end the overwhelming domination of the sector by women.
