Recruiting staff is one of the most important parts of a nursery manager's role and it is one that is very easy to get wrong, which is both expensive and detrimental to the quality of service. So we think that our new three-part pull-out guide to recruitment will be essential reading for both those looking for staff and those seeking jobs. The series kicks off with advice on advertising vacancies and applying for jobs. Future parts (appearing in the third week of each month) will look at interviewing and then at induction and settling in of new staff members. However, having recruited their staff teams, too many nurseries and childcare providers are flouting regulations by paying less than the National Minimum Wage. Some of this is deliberate, some is down to confusion, but the Government is committed to a major crackdown on employers who break the law, and ignorance may not be an excuse. Whether you're an employer or an employee, make sure you know the rules by reading our guide on page 9.
