You'll notice a new-look free poster with this issue of Nursery World. This is the first in a monthly series of good practice posters covering different areas of the nursery. We've launched the series in response to the growing interest in the importance of the layout and environment of the setting and the need to resource all areas properly so that children can initiate their own learning. Early years practitioners must be able to recognise the different learning that can take place in any particular area and know how they can support it. This goes hand-in-hand with moving away from imposing activities and towards a more child-initiated approach.

Early years practitioners must be able to recognise the different learning that can take place in any particular area and know how they can support it. This goes hand-in-hand with moving away from imposing activities and towards a more child-initiated approach.

Each poster, beginning with the book corner, will show how to resource the area, explain learning that can occur and show how to support it. The picture can be displayed in the area for the children's reference, as well as giving a guide to creating a child-friendly, stimulating environment.

The accompanying list can be pinned up as a handy reminder for practitioners working in the area.
