Egg allergy risk 'lower' for babies exposed to eggs before their first birthday

Children first exposed to egg when over 12 months old are five times more likely to develop an egg allergy than those who are exposed to the food at four to six months, according to a study by the University of Melbourne.

The study, published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, found that the older a child is first given egg, the greater the risk of them developing an allergy to it, irrespective of whether they had a family history of allergy.
