The charity CEO Sleepout UK, which supports organisations such as foodbank charity Trussell Trust, raised £60,000 from two virtual events in 2020 and hopes to raise more than £100,000 from virtual events this year.
On 1 April, families will swap their warm beds for sleeping out somewhere safe inside or outside their home. They will join fellow participants virtually via video link on the night, with fun activities to keep them motivated and warm.
The aim is to bring local communities together virtually to experience a little of what those without homes deal with every night. They will also learn about the challenges currently being faced by charities during lockdown as they continue to provide accommodation, food and support to help those who are destitute and homeless to get back on their feet.
‘Although it’s only for one night, and doesn’t come close to what homeless people experience night after night, The Big Easter Sleepout At Home is intended to raise awareness and lots of money to tackle the rising tide of homelessness we’re seeing as a result of the pandemic and lockdown measures,’ said chief executive of CEO Sleepout Bianca Robinson.
‘We’re inviting mums, dads and families, students, office teams and compassionate people from across the UK to take part in what is sure to be a memorable and rewarding night.’
