Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, Ed Balls, said,'It's really tough for families when the main breadwinner loses theirjob or they are under threat of repossession, and it puts an enormousstrain on relationships.'
The charity Relate is to receive 1m to fund extra counselling andrelationship support.
Claire Tyler, chief executive of Relate, said, 'Since the recessionbegan, the majority of Relate centres have seen an increase in demandfor services. People want help for relationships which are being putunder strain by financial worries. Talking to a counsellor can preventand ease family heartache or help make break-ups easier for all thefamily to handle, particularly the children.'
