Siren Films has been making films and documentaries about child development and behaviour for more than 30 years. In 2016, it received an endorsement from Sir David Attenborough for its documentaries, such as The Wonder Year, which documents a baby’s first year.
During the first lockdown, Siren made its Early Years Clip Library free for 30 days for everyone. Starting from now until the end of January, it is making all its new footage about the Characteristics of Effective Learning (CoEL) available for a limited time.
Playing and Exploring and Creating and Thinking Critically both have five free clips to accompany them and Active Learning has three.
Aaron Bradbury-Coffey, principal lecturer in childhood and early years at Nottingham Trent University, said, ‘These clips are very detailed videos depicting all aspects of CoEL, play and child centred learning. I particularly liked how it first demonstrated what these aspects looked like for babies, toddlers, and young children; the commentary was clear and used familiar vocabulary which is positive as we are using this too.
‘I love how you have made these feel as if we are there with the children. I also feel that the COEL get mixed up and these videos have helped reinforce what they are and how they can be used effectively. A child centred approach throughout. I also feel that they will play a great part in observations and allowing professionals to unpick the COEL.’
- There is also a free trial which gives access to the entire library for 30 days.
