The Sleep Like a Baby experience, which was launched by nappy manufacturers Pampers in London last week, aims to help visitors to experience a 12-hour sleep journey through the eyes of a baby.
Before the launch midwives and health professionals were invited to a sleep seminar in central London, where a group of international sleep experts discussed the importance of sleep for a baby's development and the value of routine in helping a baby learn how to sleep.
Professor Annette Karmiloff-Smith, head of the Neurocognitive Development Unit at the Institute of Child Health in London, who is an advisor to the Pampers Institute on all aspects of child development, said, 'Scientists have been able to study brain activity during sleep and they have discovered that specific parts of the brain are actually most active during sleep. This state of lowered consciousness and reduced physical activity enables the brain to carry out vital jobs that cannot be as efficiently accomplished during wakefulness.'
