It provides guidance on how to 'bring books to life through drama', via practical activities related to 12 well-known children's books, all of which are currently in print.
The author states that when stories are used in combination with basic drama techniques, children 'can engage intellectually and emotionally with their contents'. This can 'raise standards in reading, writing, speaking and listening.'
