This book is named after a South African chant meaning jubilation. It has been written to 'inspire more people to make music and feel comfortable to lead music activities'. The authors believe that even those who think they can't sing, dance, play an instrument or keep in time can lead musical sessions successfully.
This user-friendly book begins with the basics. Tips are given on using instruments and other items for making music. Practical activity guides explain how children can also make instruments from junk.
The book moves to 35 practical, fun musical activities relating to rhythm, voice, bringing music into other activities and ending a session effectively. Instructions are easy to follow. Extension ideas are suggested and a high-quality CD is also provided. This is extremely helpful, as practitioners can learn not only what to do from the text, but how to deliver the activity sessions well through hearing an expert at work.
The pages are beautifully illustrated by Kate Sheppard. Her work complements the tone of the book and adds a further sense of fun or 'jabulani!'
