The number of schools and early years settings in Wales taking part in the Foundation Phase pilot will double from September.
Announcing the plans last week, education minister Jane Davidson said, We want to expand the number of children who can experience the new approach and philosophy that are integral to the Foundation Phase. I have therefore decided to introduce the Foundation Phase to a further 42 schools and settings, a year in advance of statutory rollout in September 2008.
The play-based Foundation Phase pilots, for children aged three to seven, have been running in Welsh schools and early years settings since September 2004.
