The document, Clear Progression: towards an Integrated Qualifications Framework, by the Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC) with the Children's Workforce Network (CWN), states that by next month there will be a plan to develop 'common, transferable units based on the identification of common functions performed by members of the children's workforce'. The unit-based framework will allow mobility across the workforce and have eight levels up to and including higher education and professional level qualifications.
The IQF will also assist continuing professional development across the children's workforce and in all settings based on common skills and knowledge.
A reference group of higher education institutions, professional bodies and higher education agencies, including Universities UK and the Quality Assurance Agency, will be formed this month. Asked about these plans by Nursery World, a QAA spokesperson said, 'We look forward to hearing more about this and exploring opportunities with the CWDC.'
