Press reports on Monday claiming that Ofcom were to begin an inquiry into the report are false, said a spokesperson for the regulatory body. 'Ofcom has not begun a new inquiry into the effects of TV on children or the under-threes, as suggested in some reports.'
The CSA report, published in July, found that watching television delayed a child's language, reduced their concentration, caused passivity and increased sleep disorders.
The Ministry of Health subsequently recommended that television companies should stop targeting channels and marketing programmes to pre-school children.
The Ofcom spokesperson said, 'Ofcom is an evidence-based regulator and at present there has been no evidence supplied to Ofcom that proves such content is harmful to minors. However, Ofcom has asked the CSA for any research which supports their concerns.'
