Giant leap into school eased by sports fun

Forty children from Glasgow and their parents took part in a fun-packed two-day event to prepare them for the start of primary school in August.

Children and parents enjoyed sporting activities, painting, music andreading together in the Pre-5 Mini Wiz Academy. The event was organisedby Whitehill New Learning Community, one of 29 such educationinitiatives in Glasgow, in partnership with the Innovative Routes toLearning team at the University of Strathclyde.

Information sessions were available for adults, covering areas such asthe availability of after-school care, services on offer at the locallibrary, and nutrition and fitness.

Children were put into groups where they could meet others who would beattending the same school later this year. On the second day they wereled blindfolded into an 'enchanted forest' themed classroom where theirwork was on display.
