Gove to announce school funding change

A national funding formula for schools that would change the way funding is allocated and sideline local authorities from education spending is expected to be announced in a Government White Paper later this year.

It is understood that education secretary Michael Gove will reveal plans to create a new quango called the Education Funding Agency, which will be responsible for finances for all schools and sixth form provision from 2012.

The Department for Education's plans have received mixed reactions from trade unions. NASUWT warned that the new quango is a 'carefully laid trap, baited with false claims'.
