The Healthy Schools Project is designed to encourage children between three- and five-years-old to take greater responsibility for washing their hands to prevent the spread of common illnesses such as coughs, colds and stomach upsets.
To help practitioners reinforce the message of the importance of good hand washing to children, hygiene products and services supplier Kimberley Clark Professional, who are behind the campaign, have created the characters the Hand Wash Heroes.
The Hand Wash Heroes feature on posters that nurseries and pre-schools can display in their settings.
Those who take part in the Healthy Schools Project will also have access to a number of simple lesson plans that aim to encourage children 'to take ownership of their own personal hygiene', as well as a rewards programme that acknowledges good hand hygiene-related behaviour.
