Holiday vouchers unused

Parents are spending more money on their holiday childcare than they need to, according to nursery chain Busy Bees.

The chain's survey of 200 out-of-school and holiday clubs found thatmany parents were unaware they could use childcare vouchers towards thecost of holiday childcare.

While 90 per cent of the clubs surveyed accepted childcare vouchers,almost 20 per cent said they had no parents using the vouchersystem.

The clubs said that there was a lack of knowledge about how voucherswork and that many employers did not offer them.

Vicky McBride, who runs Out Of School Kids' Clubs, which operatesbreakfast, after-school and holiday clubs at nine schools acrossLiverpool, accepts vouchers as payment and offers them to her full-timeemployees as a benefit.

She said, 'Small companies are afraid that a childcare voucher systemfor their employees is difficult to set up and operate.
