Craigmillar Childcare Services (CCS) was forced to close when EdinburghCity Council ended its funding, after an independent auditor said thatthe service did not offer 'value for money' (News, 29 March).
A meeting held at the Craigmillar Community Council two weeks ago,attended by many CCS employees, was told that the organisation needed8,000 to go into liquidation and until then staff would be unableto claim redundancy pay. The council have refused to fundliquidation.
Heated discussion at the meeting led to three women being charged withbreach of the peace later that week.
Graham Rowan, manager of Craigmillar Partnership, a communityorganisation that formerly allocated council funding to CCS, said, 'Thelocal authority must adhere to the terms and conditions of fundingvoluntary groups, and they felt that the terms and conditions wouldn'tallow them to continue funding CCS.'
