Step by step
* Take the children on a walk and gather leaves of different shapes that have fallen from the trees.
* Encourage the children to look closely at the leaves that have been gathered and sort them into sets by colour and shape.
* Explain to the children that they are going to use their leaves creatively. Place a leaf under a sheet of newsprint and rub over the top of it with the flat side of a crayon.
* Place a leaf on top of a piece of brown sugar paper and rub chalk or pastels over the edges of the leaf to create a silhouette effect.
* Place a leaf on a sheet of white paper and splatter different colours of paint over it by running your finger over a toothbrush that has paint on the bristles.
* You can also make tree collages by sticking dried leaves, seeds and bark on to a sheet of paper.
